WORKSHOPS

There are over seven ways to use the BioSocial Cognition theory, specializing in its relation to children. Find out about these workshops below. You can also read a few articles on the subject under the "Articles" tab.

Child Advocacy

Success: BioSocial Cognition Advocacy | The Challenge of School

Success: BioSocial Cognition Advocacy This workshop explains a newly developed tool, concept, methodology, and application based upon current neuro-scientific research and practical application of BioSocial Cognition model. The model connects a child's behavior and environmental influences that affect a child to create a positive paradigm shift.

The Challenge of School Being successful in school is one of the toughest challenges that children, foster kids, and CASA kids experience. This presentation is based on our current neuroscience knowledge and brings to you the 'why' of the challenge. During the workshop portion of this presentation, you will cover problems you personally face so you come away with practical skills to advocate for the future of your children.

Foster Care Workshops

Why isn't this Child Improving in my Home? | Opportunity and Impact of Foster Care

Why Isn't this Child Improving in my Home? Participants will learn a new concept and methodology based upon biology, neuro-scientific research, and genetics to identify a child’s needs and enable the child to grow into adulthood with positive self-esteem and an ability to achieve their potential. Participants learn developmental brain function, the chemical nature of synaptic connections, and the effect of past memories on the future. This workshop is a combination of lecture and open discussion.

Opportunity and Impact of Foster Care This workshop explains how the BioSocial Cognition model connects a child's behavior and environmental influences. This is a new tool for childcare providers to create informed decisions and communication with parents.

Child Care Workshops

Opportunity and Impact of the Childcare Provider | Healthy Social, Emotional and Brain Development

Opportunity and Impact of the Childcare Provider This workshop explains the BioSocial Cognition model and how it connects to a child’s behavior and environmental influences that affect that child.

Healthy Social, Emotional and Brain Development Presented in a unique mixture of anecdotal and scientific knowledge, you will gain a logical and practical approach to form positive memories and productive life skills for a child. Learn strategies of utilizing your understanding of memory formation to improve growth, development results, communication between provider and child, parents and provider, and a child with others. Childcare providers can use this to help a child become a successful adult who achieves their potential and likes himself or herself!

Adoption Workshops

Open Adoption: A Parents' Journey | Advocating for Family Relationships | The Brain: Insights into Adoptive Parenting

Open Adoption: A Parents' Journey This workshop explains a father’s journey developing the Biosocial Cognition model. Connect elements of a child’s behavior, environmental influences that affect the child, and hone your ability to assess the child’s needs.

Advocating for Family Relationships You will learn why a child’s past must be connected with their future. Foster and adoptive children have a unique challenge to integrate their birth family memories and experiences with their adoptive parent teaching and values. Gain a practical approach to connect the past to present and future.

The Brain: Insights into Adoptive Parenting Learn how to use BioSocial Cognition to navigate a child's development and individualism to engage a child to grow into adulthood with positive self-esteem and ability to achieve their potential.

Parenting Workshops

Identifying the Potential of Your Child

Identifying the Potential of Your Child Parents have many "why" questions. Foster and adoptive parents face unique situations and challenges thoughout day-to-day life with their children. During this workshop series, parents will learn “why” the memories of their foster or adoptive child affect their response to their environments. With this understanding and use of the Biosocial Cognition model, foster or adoptive parents can identify a child’s needs, which enable the child to grow into adulthood with positive self-esteem and the ability to achieve their potential. Through this new concept and methodology based upon biology, neuro-scientific research, and genetics, parents learn developmental brain function, the chemical nature of synaptic connections, and the affect of past memories on the future. Parents gain new knowledge and use of a new tool that empowers their parenting in easy or extremely difficult everyday situations.

Teens Workshops

What Were You Thinking? Understanding Teen Choices!

What Were You Thinkin? Understanding Teen Choices! Arguing is a form of defensiveness. To argue is to stand as an individual. Argument is driven by developmental stages of your brain. Participants explore how the knowledge of neuroscience and the connected elements of behavior and environmental influences empower parenting, teaching, communication, and advocacy. This is necessary information to overcome the sometimes difficult challenges with our youth.

University of Texas Workshops

BioSocial Cognition and the Brain

BioSocial Cognition and the Brain This workshop explains a newly developed concept and methodology based upon current biology, neuro-scientific research, genetics, and practical application of the Biosocial Cognition model to parenting, child advocacy, foster care, and adoptive parenting.

This model connects elements of a child’s behavior, environmental influences that affect the child, parents, advocates, and team members. The model will hone the ability to assess the child’s needs. Utilizing this model takes parenting and advocacy to a new level that supports the development of a child into an adult who has positive self-esteem and tools to achieve their potential. Participants explore how to use the knowledge of neuroscience and tools to empower their parenting and communicate their advocacy.
